Filomena’s Kitchen, Bogmalo-Goa I Restaurant Review

There are some restaurants that shine with a homely quality, satisfying food and a comfortable vibe. Filomena’s Kitchen in Bogmalo, Goa is one of them.

Filomena’s kitchen is one of those restaurants that you wouldn’t normally think of visiting. For one, it lacks a sea-facing view like other restaurants that line the shores of Bogmalo beach. Secondly, it hasn’t fashioned its menu on typical authentic Goan cuisine and seafood. Thirdly, it is more of a mid-week joint than a weekend diner. Despite this, it seems to be thriving in a bye-lane just short of the shores of Bogmalo Beach. Definitely one of the more exciting things to have happened to this part of the non-sandy stretch.

Upon entering Filomena’s Kitchen, I was immediately struck by its cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant’s decor, though pedestrian enough to be forgettable, creates a comfortable and inviting setting. The soft lighting and soothing background music add to the overall charm, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed and enjoyable meal.

During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of trying their signature dish, viz. the salt and pepper chicken. The dish features succulent pieces of chicken, perfectly seasoned with a blend of salt, pepper, and aromatic spices. The chicken is cooked to perfection, boasting a crispy exterior that gives way to tender, juicy meat. The flavors are well-balanced, allowing the natural taste of the chicken to shine through. Served with a side of tangy dipping sauce, this dish is a must-try for any poultry enthusiast.

Next up, we tried the chicken club sandwich. This is a true classic that satisfies both the hunger pangs and the palate. Stacked high with layers of freshly sliced chicken, egg, cheese, tomato, and mayonnaise, this sandwich is a feast for the senses. The bread is perfectly toasted, adding a satisfying crunch to each bite. The combination of flavors and textures creates a harmonious blend, ensuring a delightful experience with every mouthful. The generous portion size makes it a substantial and satisfying meal option. The side of french fries and coleslaw provides a perfect accompaniment to the dish.

To complement the flavours of the dishes, I ordered a Margarita cocktail at Filomena’s Kitchen. Served in a chilled glass with a salt-rimmed rim, this cocktail is a refreshing and invigorating choice. The bartender’s expertise is evident in the perfectly balanced combination of tequila, lime juice, and triple sec. Each sip delivers a delightful burst of citrusy flavors, tantalizing the taste buds and leaving a pleasant aftertaste. The Margarita cocktail is an excellent choice for those looking to unwind and enjoy a well-crafted drink.

Since we were feeling more peckish than hungry, we skipped mains and directly went in for the New York cheese cake. The cheese cake is velvety smooth and creamy, with a delicate balance of sweetness that is neither overpowering nor cloying. The buttery crumble crust provides a delightful contrast to the silky filling. This dessert is the perfect way to end a meal on a sweet note.

The service at Filomena’s Kitchen is attentive, friendly, and homely. The staff members are knowledgeable about the menu and are more than happy to make recommendations based on individual preferences. Throughout my dining experience, the servers were prompt in taking orders and ensuring that every need was met. The restaurant’s commitment to excellent service contributes to the overall positive experience and adds to the charm of Filomena’s Kitchen.

While the restaurant excels in many aspects, there is always room for improvement. The menu could benefit from a wider range of vegetarian and vegan options to cater to a broader clientele.

In conclusion, Filomena’s Kitchen at Bogmalo is a pleasant surprise and an unassuming after-work eatery. The salt and pepper chicken, club sandwich, New York cheesecake, and Margarita cocktail are just a few examples of the exquisite offerings at this restaurant.

It’s not fine dining. But, it’s a good wholesome place to drop by, there’s background music while you eat, you leave with a full belly and the bill is not expensive. On a weekday, life doesn’t get much better than this.
