Trips to seaside shacks in the day mean sunshine, seafood and sunburn. Our visit to the popular Zeebop by the Sea in South Goa was no different.
Nestled along the picturesque coastline, this beachfront restaurant captures the essence of laid-back luxury with its inviting ambience, stunning ocean views, and a menu that celebrates the bounty of the sea.
Zeebop is where people go to eat fresh seafood, stare agog at the waves and drink copious amounts of chilled beer.

The palm-fringed beach, presents an idyllic setting for a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant exudes a relaxed charm, with its white washed decor, and the soothing sound of waves lapping against the shore. The sight and sound of the ocean provide a soothing backdrop, instilling a sense of tranquility that instantly transports you to a coastal paradise.
The menu at Zeebop by the Sea pays homage to Goa’s rich seafood heritage. From succulent prawns to fresh catch-of-the-day preparations, each dish showcases the culinary expertise of the kitchen.
To start with, we ordered chilled beers and french fries. You can tell a lot from a french fry. The French Fries at Zeebop by the Sea are a delightful addition to the menu, offering a familiar comfort amidst the vibrant flavors of Goan cuisine.

Served golden and piping hot, the French Fries at Zeebop are a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to quality and attention to detail. Each fry boasts a perfect balance between a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior, resulting in a satisfying texture that is irresistible. These fries are more than just a side dish; they are a showcase of simplicity done right.
The Goan Prawn Curry is a standout dish that brilliantly encapsulates the region’s culinary identity. The prawns, plump and juicy, are bathed in a vibrant curry made with fragrant spices, coconut milk, and a hint of tangy tamarind. The complex blend of flavors, from the warmth of the spices to the creaminess of the coconut, creates a symphony on the palate that keeps you coming back for more. Served with fluffy steamed rice, this dish is a testament to Zeebop’s commitment to authentic Goan cuisine.

Next, we ordered Chicken Xacuti with poie bread. As the plate arrives, the aromatic symphony envelops you, teasing your senses and building anticipation. The Chicken Xacuti is a sight to behold—a medley of succulent chicken pieces bathed in a rich, fragrant gravy. The first taste is nothing short of revelatory.
The true magic of the Chicken Xacuti lies in its spice blend. The combination of roasted red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin, cloves, cinnamon, and more, creates a harmonious balance of flavors that is both bold and nuanced. Each bite offers a delightful explosion of taste, with layers of warmth, earthiness, and gentle heat dancing on your palate.

To complete the culinary journey, Zeebop by the Sea boasts a well-curated wine list and an array of refreshing cocktails that complement the coastal vibe. From fruity sangrias to zesty mojitos, there’s a libation to suit every taste and enhance the overall dining experience.
The service at Zeebop by the Sea strikes a perfect balance between attentiveness and unobtrusiveness. However, it’s important to note a few areas where the restaurant could improve to elevate the overall experience.
Firstly, the menu, while showcasing an impressive selection of seafood dishes, could benefit from expanding the range of vegetarian options. More variety in vegetarian offerings would be appreciated by those who prefer plant-based cuisine. A wider selection of innovative and enticing vegetarian dishes would enhance the inclusivity of the menu.
Another aspect that could be improved upon is the pacing of the service. While the staff members are friendly and attentive, there were instances where the wait time between courses felt slightly prolonged. Streamlining the timing between courses would enhance the flow of the dining experience and ensure a seamless progression of flavours. Also, it helps if you don’t visit in sweltering heat. The outdoor seating offers barely any respite from the heat and as the afternoon progresses you are quite likely to get torched.

Despite these minor criticisms, Zeebop by the Sea remains a coastal gem in Goa. The stunning location, the celebration of seafood flavors, and the warmth of the staff create a memorable experience that captures the essence of beachside dining. It’s a dining experience that will leave you with a lingering appreciation for Goa’s culinary heritage and a desire to return for more.
