Black Mirror- Season 6 : Review

Black Mirror Season 6 is a mixed bag. Some episodes are brilliant, while others are merely good. Overall, the season is a bit uneven, but it still offers some thought-provoking and disturbing stories.

The best episode of the season for me was “Demon 79.” A mild-mannered Indian immigrant Nida finds a talisman that summons a demon named Gaap. Gaap gives Nida three days to commit three murders or the world will end in a nuclear apocalypse. The script-writing is excellent and it is dark and entertaining all at the same time. The acting is engaging and powerful and evokes a compelling response.

Another standout episode is “Beyond the Sea.” This episode is a sci-fi drama about two astronauts who use a device to transfer their consciousnesses to look-alike robots on Earth. The episode is beautifully shot and features some powerful performances.

However, not all of the episodes are as strong. “Mazey Day” is a horror story that is more suspenseful than scary while “Joan is Awful” which shows how technology can be used to manipulate people is somewhat okay but falls short of being amazing inspite of having Salma Hayek in a lead role.

Overall, Black Mirror Season 6 is a worthwhile watch for fans of the series. The season is as consistently great as previous seasons, and offers some memorable and disturbing stories.

Here is a breakdown of the episodes:

  • Joan is Awful : An average woman discovers that a streaming service has created a show based on her life, starring an AI-generated version of Salma Hayek. The episode explores the power of social media and the dangers of giving up control of your own image.
  • Beyond the Sea : A sci-fi drama about two astronauts who use a device to transfer their consciousnesses to look-alike robots on Earth.
  • Mazey Day : A troubled Hollywood actress is hunted by invasive paparazzi after her disappearance while dealing with the aftermath of a hit-and-run incident. The episode explores the dark side of fame and the lengths to which people will go for a photo.
  • Demon 79: An entertaining episode about a woman who is haunted by a demon that insists she has to murder three people in three days in order to avoid an apocalypse.
  • Loch Henry : A young couple traveling to a sleepy Scottish town to start work on a nature documentary are drawn into a dark mystery involving a series of murders that took place 20 years ago. The episode explores the nature of evil and the power of secrets to corrupt.

I would recommend Black Mirror Season 6 to fans of the series who are looking for unique and gripping stories.
